Sammanfattning: Instagram is one of the largest social media platforms where users share idealized images on a daily basis. Previous research has proven that women get a more negative feeling in relation to their body image when consuming content on social media. Currently a new female body image is trending without further reactions in society and in the media. This study aims to examine what perceptions young women have about influencers' representation of female body ideals on Instagram. This is examined through an interview study with women in the ages 18-25 to expose their perceptions of body ideals and influencers' contribution to creating and perpetuating the female body ideal. This study is based on Michel Foucault's theories about discourse and power as theoretical starting points. The results show that the female body image is unreasonably, unattainable and that an increase of cosmetic surgery in influencers creates an angled view on what a woman's body should look like. It creates a negative effect on women's body image when exposed to the thin body ideal that exists today. Further research could be to interview influencers and their experiences of their profession and in creating female body ideals.
