Secondly, we examine what media students at the Linnaeus University in Kalmar consider what is important in their choise of news media and how they reflect on the reporting regarding gang criminality in 2023. Through this we gained an insight and understanding for these questions. Through a qualitative interview study with both journalists and media students we could get the spectra of both sides. Our study showed that the journalists consider both ethical and security factors formed their work at Public service when they where reporting about gang criminality in Sweden 2023. The journalists that were interviewed considered it important to protect their sources. The study also shows that the consequences of a publication were central and taken under consideration before it were published. A challenge according to the journalists were to report objectively and balanced and not to spread the propaganda the gangs wants. The results show that the media students thought that the amount of reporting that Public service reported about gang criminality contributes to the reporting losing value and contributing to a dulling. The media students also believed that the consequences of the amount of reporting increases the uncertainty in the society. The results of the study also showed that the media students choose Public service reporting because of the organization's legitimacy and impartiality. There was also a desire for more voices to be given a place in the reporting, except the police and politicians that are given the most space at the moment in Public service reporting about gang violence. Finally, our study can be seen as inspiration to further research regarding the subject gang criminality in the media. For example, to study how journalists approach publication and ethical considerations when it comes to children who are either victims of gang criminality or who themselves contribute to the increased gang criminality.
