Detta är en Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för psykologi

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to explore clients’ experiences of dissatisfaction with completed therapy delivered by therapists in training at the Department of Psychology, Lund University. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five participants who had received Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The material was analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Five main themes were identified; Dissatisfaction with the interpersonal relationship: Experiencing the relationship as too unequal, too “friendship-like” or too filled with differences. Dissatisfaction with the therapeutic work: Feeling like a guinea pig or working towards the wrong goal. Comparing the therapist with previous therapists: The previous therapist was considered better for the most part. Difficulties with expressing dissatisfaction: Participants described experiences of feeling partly to blame for the dissatisfaction. Effects of the therapy: Experiences of positive outcomes existed side by side with negative effects. The study showed that dissatisfaction was a complex and sometimes contradictory experience that was very difficult for clients to express. The importance of meta-communication about the therapeutic relationship, expectations and the goals of the therapy became clear, in accordance with precious research.
