Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: This study aims to investigate the perspectives of absent fathers in two different online forums: Flashback Forum and Familjeliv. An absent father is defined in this survey as a parent who is alive but not present in the child's life for some reason. Additionally, by studying the concepts used to characterize them, this study explores the language surrounding absent fathers. The research strives to identify the societal norms that appear in response to absent fathers. The study also examines how absent fathers respond to various discussions about their interactions with the mother and child. The investigation uses a qualitative approach such as qualitative text analysis, and draws from conversations online on the two forums. Gender theory, victimology, and norms and normality were employed to analyze the research questions in further detail. The overall number of posts from the forums was 424, 93 posts were specifically relevant and reduced to 29 for the analysis. The findings reveal no negative perspectives on absent fathers. The majority on both forums defend and explain the absence, and responsibility is occasionally placed on single mothers. The analysis also shows inclusions of justifications and attempts to portray themselves as victims with various excuses for their absence.
