Sammanfattning: In this master thesis the writer has studied museums and their organization under the Covid-19 pandemic breakout of 2020. The 11 museums that been contacted are all located in southern Sweden. They are all varied in ownership, from municipality and state owned to those driven by private organizations. The museums in the study have all struggled with the pandemic. But the degree of financial loss and drop in visitor statistics has proven to be varied and not as streamlined as first suspected. To learn of the changes and issues they had to endure under the pandemic, I have been using Zoom, Skype, or telephone to do interviews. Email correspondence has also been favored when there been no available time for a voice-based interview. Documents concerning how museums have handled the Covid-19 pandemic of the year of 2020 has also been used in this master thesis. From an ethic standpoint, the museums names are kept as they are, but any potential names mentioned has been changed out to keep any employee anonymous. To fully grasp the changes, Institutional theories has been used as a theoretical framework. With the help of Institutional theory, the results of the interviews and documents has been analyzed and put beside each other’s for evaluation, to show potential changes, differences, and similarities in how the museum organizations have been reshaped or worked to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic. Something that has proven to show that there is a varied outcome for the museums. Most of them have committed to digital workspaces, social media focus and extended exhibits or outdoor focus. The larger the organization, the larger the issue. Often those that are large tourist attraction has proven to be the most effected by the pandemic. The museums have also shown a varied experience from the effects of the pandemic concerning new insight and what they wish to take along for the future. Some will adapt working from home when the pandemic is finally over with. While others found it not as useful and look forward to fully returning to working in the museum again. The pandemic is still ravaging the globe. How it will affect the museums can yet only be speculated about.
