AUKTORITÄRA – LIBERALA VÄRDERINGAR: BETYDELSEN AV UTBILDNING En komparativ studie över tid mellan Sverige och Danmark

Sammanfattning: The emergence of a new value-based societal cleavage has changed the political mobilizationpatterns in Europe and correlates with attitudes to immigrants, cultural diversity and Europeanintegration. Previous research has demonstrated that education is the single most importantfactor to understand different positions within this cleavage, although there is a lack of unityin the understanding of the importance of the influence of education. One explanation is thatthe education system enhances liberal values that transfer to the students. An alternativeexplanation is that education sorts out people to different labour market positions resulting indifferent interests. By focusing on these two main models of explanations in a comparativestudy of Sweden and Denmark at two points in time, 2002 and 2014, my purpose is tobroaden the understanding of what might cause different positions among this value cleavage.The results from my multiple regression analysis show that the first model – the socializationexplanation – seems to be the most important determinant. However, some unexpected resultsindicate that the socialization explanation needs to be further investigated.
