Acceptera eller avvisa? En studie om barn och unga asylsökandes rättigheter

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to show and discuss the work and the efforts that are made for children and young asylum seekers in the Swedish society, focusing on the rights of the child. My aim was also to discuss whether Sweden complies with the Convention on the rights of the child in asylum cases. My questions were: What rights do children and young asylum seekers have compared to adults? How are these rights incorporated within the asylum process? How do the government authorities and the non-profit organizations work with children and young asylum seekers? I decided on using a qualitative method, and after studying earlier research on the subject I conducted six interviews. Using the labeling theory I analyzed my data, and found that children are handled differently compared to other asylum seekers because of the very fact that they are children. The Convention on the rights of the child is not always easy to interpret, and therefore Swedish authorities can be criticized in the way they handle questions concerning children and young asylum seekers.
