Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to discuss how visions about places influence the physical place-development, and how people’s ability to inhabit and make use of space is affected as a consequence. A case study of Kødbyen, Copenhagen’s Meat Packing District, was carried out to research this. Research questions relate to how these place-making processes can be understood in terms of power, where some people are included by places while others are excluded from them. A model showing the intersectionality between the visionary aspects of place, the spatial aspects of place, and the movements of people there, is created to better understand the complexities of place-making. The paper draws upon a theoretical framework based on the social construction of place, discourse analysis, perspectives of power as well as urban regeneration processes. The findings reveal a visionary discourse, in which Kødbyen is understood as a shared space for “kød og kreativitet” (meat and creativity). In the physical place-development, this discourse is materialized in two intuitively contradictory ways; by on the one hand making the space accessible for some activities and movements, while simultaneously closing parts of it off for others. As a result, Kødbyen can be seen as an open, inclusive place for some people, movements and activities, while others are seen as anomalies in the street scene and, in consequence, are excluded.
