Utbredd, dold deltid bland arbetarklassens kvinnor : en studie av ojämlikhetssystem i de svenska kommunerna

Sammanfattning: The high level of part-time work among Swedish women raises concern with the Com-mitte on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, and Sweden should priori-tize the realization of women’s de facto equality with men in the labour market. The extent of part-time work should be analysed and measurses evaluated and revised. The purpose of this essay has been to examine part-time work among women who work for Swedish local municipalities. First of all, I set out to examine if the extent of part-time work, as suggested, was underestimated in published statistic reports. Se-condly, I wanted to explore if there was an intersection between class, gender and part-time work. Finally, I chose to analyse the results with Joan Acker's theory on inequality regimes in work organizations. The results are as follows. Women's part-time work is underestimated and some of the women’s work and working hours are not made visible when part-time work is reported by the employers, hence it is hidden. In spite the fact that they are numerous, women who are employed by the hour, are not included in the statistics, and their part-time work is not measured and approached. Furthermore, I found that workingclass women are in a majority among part-time workers, and there is a strong intersection between part-time work, gender and class. The Swedish municipalities fulfill in many ways the criterias of Acker's inequality regimes. Hence, they produce and reproduce gender and class in the way that they or-ganize their organizations, and through attitudes and practices.
