Mätmetoder för ytemissioner av deponigas - En fallstudie på Filbornadeponin i Helsingborg

Sammanfattning: Global warming is a global issue which needs to be targeted sooner rather than later. One source of greenhouse gases, especially methane, is landfills. An obstacle for reducing these emissions in Sweden is the lack of national recommendation regarding which method should be used to quantify methane emissions from landfills. In this study, a literature review has been conducted to summarize available methods for quantifying methane emissions from landfills. A case study was then conducted at Filborna landfill, located in Helsingborg. The case study included an overview of the previously used methods for the quantification of methane emissions at Filborna. These consists of the tracer gas dispersion method, fluxbox measurements and measurements by drones and satellites. The case study also consisted of field measurements of methane gas at Filborna, to examine if any correlation between measured methane concentrations and barometric pressure changes could be found. No such correlation could be shown in this study. The case study illustrates how the measured amount of methane emissions can differ between various methods, as well as between different monitoring occasions with the same method. The results from the tracer gas dispersion method, the drone and fluxbox measurements are within the same range of around 100 kilograms methane per hour, whereas the satellite measurements show emissions of several thousand kilograms of methane per hour. Though, it should be noted that the satellite measurements at Filborna are being conducted as a trial, and the results are not yet final. In conclusion, there is a need for better guidelines for quantifying methane emissions from landfills. There is also a need for developing methods which can measure the emissions continuously, rather than momentaneously. This could provide improved measurement reports and create better conditions to implement or upgrade a potential extraction system for landfill gas.
