   Sammanfattning : Entropi och temperatur presenteras som fältvärden definierade i termer av lokala medelvärden av atomistiska storheter i rumtiden, och därmed tydliggörs ett icke-traditionellt samband mellan makroskopisk termodynamik och mikroskopisk fysik, utan sannolikhetsfördelningar och medelvärden över ensembler. Genom att analysera beskrivningar av ett termomekaniskt system på olika skalor visas hur termodynamikens andra lag måste begränsa konstitutiva ekvationer snarare än processer och hur detta är relaterat till begreppet reproducerbarhet samt hela existensen av en makroskopisk teori.
