6. Nature representation in forest fire management in Jämtland, Sweden
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Urban and Rural DevelopmentSammanfattning : With a globally increasing mean temperature and drier summers in Europe, forest fires are becoming a wider known issue in the forest landscape. Having been part of the boreal forest landscape for millennia, their influence becomes more pronounced due to these changes. LÄS MER
7. Post-Fire Vegetation Recovery Monitoring using MODIS Time Series: A Case Study in California
Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/GeoinformatikSammanfattning : Human-caused forest fires have increased in magnitude and frequency, affecting global vegetation and requiring a re-evaluation of fire regimes. Changing fire regimes have led to reduced burned areas in fire- dependent ecosystems and increased areas in fire-independent ecosystems, resulting in changes in land cover and posing a threat to native plant communities. 8. Estimating Future Forest Fire Risk in Gävleborg County Sweden in 2041-2070 Following RCP 8.5
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : Forest fires can act as an ecosystem service by providing habitat renewal, controlling pests, and reducing the risk of extreme fires, but can at the same time disturb an ecosystem negatively. Furthermore, forest fires release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, damage property, and lead to health issues. LÄS MER
9. Traditional Knowledge and Practices for Resilience to Climate Change in Nepal’s Mid-Hills: Perspectives from Darma and Madi Rural Municipalities
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och SamhällssäkerhetSammanfattning : With climate change impacting countries around the world, rural communities in Nepal are among those most affected. As acknowledged by global climate discourses, traditional knowledge plays a vital role in understanding and adapting to climate change. LÄS MER
10. Reconstruction of Fire Spread with a Markov Random Field Mixture Model
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistikSammanfattning : This thesis revolves around reconstructing fire sizes for historical fires in Jämtgaveln, Sweden based on data of fire scars in trees. We propose a Hidden Markov Model (HMM), where the domain is divided into quadratic grid cells of 250 $\times$ 250 m and with these grid cells we associate a binary Markov random field taking values 0 or 1 corresponding to no fire and fire respectively.
