Sammanfattning: A critical discourse analysis about the portrayal of honour-related violence in Swedish newspapers In recent years there has been an increase in the number of articles written about honour-related violence in Swedish newspapers. The aim of this essay is to analyze and highlight how two major Swedish newspapers describe the subject of honour-related violence. More specifically the purpose is to investigate how the origin of honour-related violence and the question of responsibility in relation to honour-related violence is described by the authors. The theory and method used has been critical discourse analysis and we chose to use Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis in the form of modality and intertextuality to deconstruct text and analyze our chosen articles. In our essay we have noted three discourses that are central to how honour-related violence is discussed. Conclusions from this study include that an often-negative image of immigrants in connection to honour-related violence appears in the text and immigrants are often treated as a homogenous group in discussions about honour-related violence. In addition, the subject is often politicized within the discourses and used in promoting political parties and its respective philosophies, as well as presenting their solutions.
