Sammanfattning: Postcolonial feminist theory says that ones identity is constructed by several factor, not only gender but even culture, ethnicity and class imbedded in the social context. This paper examines what happens to women's identities if the social context changes. Does an identity shift occur? By interviewing five women from Bosnia-Herzegovina I try to understand the affects migration has on women?s identity. Postcolonial feminist theory says that our identities are constantly changing, as their constructing factors. These factors, as well as our identities, are affected and created from inside and outside of our group of belonging. Hence, identification by other as well as self identification creates our identities. I found that the Bosnian women that I interviewed in many ways changed the way in witch they perceive themselves and their reality because of the changed social context. In other ways though, they tried to remain the same, holding on to what they call a Bosnian identity. Because of this I believe that we can?t talk about an identity shift sense the change in their identities hasn?t been that drastic. But nevertheless there has been an important change witch confirms the postcolonial feminist theories about fluctuating identity.
