  1. 1. Retrieval of Cloud Top Pressure

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för datavetenskap; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Författare :Claudia Adok; [2016]
    Nyckelord :neural networks; multilayer perceptron; random forest regression; cloud top pressure; cloud top height;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the predictive models the multilayer perceptron and random forest are evaluated to predict cloud top pressure. The dataset used in this thesis contains brightness temperatures, reflectances and other useful variables to determine the cloud top pressure from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) instrument on the two satellites NOAA-17 and NOAA-18 during the time period 2006-2009. 2. 2. Spatial assessment of NDVI as an indicator of desertification in Ethiopia using remote sensing and GIS

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Gezahagn Negash Seboka; [2016]
    Nyckelord :NDVI and Rainfall; land degradation; climate change; desertification; NOAA AVHRR; land cover; GIS; Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Desertification is a serious environmental and socio-economic problem occurring at global, regional and local scale. According to Article 1(a) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), define the term “desertification” means “land degradation in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid (dry lands) areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities”. 3. 3. Assessment of spatio-temporal patterns of NDVI in response to precipitation using NOAA-AVHRR rainfall estimate and NDVI data from 1996-2008, Ethiopia

    Master-uppsats, Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi (INK)

    Författare :Getahun Tadesse Kabthimer; [2012]
    Nyckelord :NOAA AVHRR; NDVI; rainfall estimates; land cover classes.;

    Sammanfattning : The role of remote sensing data for monitoring different parameters in the study of ecosystems has been increasing. Particularly the development of different indices has played a great role to study the properties of vegetation and vegetation dynamics in large countries. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Significance of soil moisture on vegetation greenness in the African Sahel from 1982 to 2008

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Mohamed Ahmed; [2012]
    Nyckelord :geography; NDVI; soil moisture; time series analysis; Sahel; remote sensing; temporal correlation; physical geography; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Popular science The Sahel is a semi-arid eco-climatic transition zone in northern Africa separating the Sahara desert from the Africa’s tropical forest. The Sahel word in Arabic language means “shore” which is linguistically describes the appearances of vegetation as a shoreline defining the boundary of the Sahara desert. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Climate variability and satellite : observed vegetation responses in Tanzania

    Magister-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Wilbert Timiza; [2011]
    Nyckelord :NOAA-AVHRR-NDVI; rainfall; sea surface temperature; Tanzania; trend; correlation; climate variability; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Climate and vegetation growth of an area are interrelated processes; both take place on small to global scales. However, climate change and variability impacts on vegetation in most places in the world including Tanzania is of great concern since vegetation supports many socio-economic sectors, and plays a crucial role in atmospheric greenhouse gas moderation.
