1. Norra polcirkelns uppvärmning och ännu varmare maktkapplöpning
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionenSammanfattning : Today the climate in the arctic regions are changing at a rapid rate, faster than any speed previously recorded in human history but how is it impacting the geopolitical situation in these regions? New territory is being created by the ice melting and new natural resources are being found, how can this impact the current situation? This study looks at and discusses the current geopolitical situation in the Arctic using two theories from international relations, realism and liberalism and how the situation can develop using these theories. From a realist standpoint it is a balance of power held in check primarily by nuclear weapons. LÄS MER
2. Legacy effects of temperature alterations on microbial resistance and resilience to drying and rewetting
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : With warming in soils due to climate change, a series of secondary factors arise, which have multifaceted effects on soil microbial communities. Of these, alterations to soil moisture are among the most crucial to understanding how microbial functions will change in the face of climate change. LÄS MER
3. FLOWERING TIME DEPENDENCE ON MICROCLIMATE ACROSS AN ELEVATIONAL GRADIENT IN ARCTIC PLANT COMMUNITIES
Kandidat-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Instiutionen för biologi och miljövetenskapSammanfattning : The Arctic is the fastest-warming region on Earth. Arctic plant communities are highly sensitive to temperature change; temperature-dependent advancement of flowering dates has already been observed in the Arctic. Flowering time is critical for reproductive success. LÄS MER
4. Methane Sulphonic Acid in East Antarctic Coastal Firn and Ice Cores and Its Relationship with Chlorophyll-a and Sea Ice Extent in the Southern Ocean
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : The seasonal retreat of sea ice in the austral spring and summer around Antarctica has a significant effect on phytoplankton activity, mainly due to light availability, meltwater input of dissolved iron, and surface water stratification. Phytoplankton produce dimethylsulfoniopropionate, the precursor to the climate-cooling gas dimethyl sulphide, which is ventilated to the atmosphere and oxidised to methane sulphonic acid (MSA). 5. Common Guillemots Uria aalge Alter Trip Patterns During Breeding
Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and HealthSammanfattning : Seabirds are facing immense pressures, primarily induced by competition with commercial fisheries; this is of considerable concern due to the critical role that they play in marine food webs and their invaluable function as bioindicators. In this thesis, I studied the temporal change in trip duration for the Common Guillemot Uria aalge, a circum-arctic seabird species. LÄS MER
