    Sammanfattning : Livslängden hos svenska mjölkkor är idag relativt kort då faktorer som en hög rekryteringsprocent, låg fertilitet, sjukdomar och skador, låg mjölkavkastning, hög inkalvningsålder och en önskan om bättre genetiskt material i nästa generations kvigor spelar in. Alla dessa faktorer påverkar i sin tur metanutsläppen då en mjölkko som lever länge och bidrar till besättningen med sin mjölkavkastning har lägre metanutsläpp än en ko som lever kortare tid.
