    Sammanfattning : Using a framework for analyzing security policy consisting of a synthesis of the Multiple Streams Framework by Kingdon (2014) and Securitization theory as described by Balzacq (2010), this study aims to explain the process of Sweden’s national security policy between 2014 and 2022. Such an investigation has relevance particularly for studies of peace, security and policy processes, since it relates to the broader question of what conditions make military alignment possible or impossible.     Sammanfattning : Sweden is the only state in the Baltic Sea region currently not under NATO protection, which puts the state in a particularly vulnerable position. On 18 May 2022, Sweden officially deemed NATO alignment a more effective option of security strategy in projecting deterrence and dealing with the security challenges the state is facing, compared to a strategy of non-alignment which has been Sweden’s security posture for over 200 years.     Sammanfattning : Based on the understanding that Mali and Russia will be unable to contain the jihadist security threat in Mali, this paper explains why France withdrew from Mali in 2022 and why the latter intensified its cooperation with Russia. Existing literature points to operational obstacles and grievances directed towards France’s presence in Mali, however, it falls short of explaining whether these are explanatory for France’s withdrawal, or why France wouldn’t have left earlier considering these hurdles.
