  1. 1. Decay Chains of Fast Alpha Emitters in the Actinide Region

    Magister-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Författare :Tanvir Sayed; [2024]
    Nyckelord :alpha decay; alpha emissions; fine structure; decay chain; decay scheme; alpha spectrometry; actinide; nucleus; nuclear structure; nuclear states; energy levels; uranium isotopes; U310 experiment; parasitic runs; decay station; TASISpec ; moving window deconvolution; digitisers; alpha-gamma coincidence; 221-Th decay; fine structure of alpha decay to 217-Ra; GSI; Gamow s theory; Geiger-Nuttall; chain search; short half-lives; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : With the advent of increasingly advanced spectroscopic instruments after the turn of the century, it has become accessible to unravel the structure of instantly ‘vanishing’ nuclei, with lifetimes as short as 1 μs, and responsible for pile-up events in analog electronics. Experimental data has been recorded by the Nuclear Structure Group at Lund University for 48Ca/50Ti + nat. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Atomic Ambiguity: Geopolitical Rivalries and the Dynamics of Nuclear Decision-Making

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för freds- och konfliktforskning

    Författare :Gabriel Ringvall; [2024]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the intricate relationship between geopolitical rivalries and the transition from nuclear latency, emphasising the role of these rivalries in shaping nuclear decision-making. Utilising a comparative study of the India-Pakistan and Argentina-Brazil dyads, the research investigates how variations in geopolitical rivalry intensity influence states' resolve to either pursue nuclear proliferation or reversal. 3. 3. Robust non-Abelian geometric phases on three-qubit spin codes

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Materialteori

    Författare :Parham Azish; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Quantum information theory; Holonomic quantum computing; non-abelian systems;

    Sammanfattning : Quantum holonomies are non-Abelian Geometric Phases predominantly observed in adiabatic, non-adiabatic, or measurement-based quantum evolutions. Their significance lies in their potential utility within quantum computing due to their robustness against noise throughout the parameter path. LÄS MER

  4. 4. NON-COMPLIANCE AS PROCRASTINATION? Analysing how EU-member states live up to the Nuclear Waste Directive

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Författare :Ellen Petersson; [2023-10-20]
    Nyckelord :Compliance; motivations; enforcement; management; European Union; directive; radioactive waste; qualitative content analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis seeks to better understand how EU member states express motivations for not complying with EU law. Using the case of the Councils Directive 2011/70/Euratom, also known as the nuclear waste directive, this study analyzes member states' motivations for not complying with the requirements established in the directive, guided theoretically by the management and enforcement approaches. 5. 5. Terminating Apartheid's Atomic Bomb

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Författare :Oskar Hedman; [2023]
    Nyckelord :South Africa; Nuclear Disarmament; Tripart Accord; Frederik de Klerk; Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty; Law and Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : South Africa secretly produced six and a half nuclear weapons from 1978-1989 before undertaking a complete nuclear disarmament between 1989-1991; it is the only instance in history of when a state has discarded an indigenously developed nuclear arsenal and presents a unique case for studying the nuclear decision-making of states. This thesis is a theory-testing case study where I, by conducting a qualitative content analysis of previous research on South Africa’s nuclear rollback, examine how well Scott D Sagan’s nuclear policy model can explain the nuclear disarmament of South Africa.
