  1. 1. The effects of mining on a community in rural Syria : a case Study of mining in the region of ArRuhayba, Syria

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Urban and Rural Development

    Författare :Mohamad Turkman; [2023]
    Nyckelord :rural; mining; livelihoods; development; sustainability; participation; governance; Syria; ArRuhayba;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the effects of mining activities on the livelihoods of rural people and their environment in ArRuhayba, close to Syria’s capital Damascus. A public and political debate about such potential effects has not existed yet in Syria, probably because of the ongoing civil war in the country, which leaves a research gap to be filled. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Contingency Framework for Assessing the Commercial Potential of Utility-scale Agrivoltaics

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för ekonomi, teknik, konst och samhälle

    Författare :Filippa Larsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Agrivoltaic; Agriphotovoltaic; AV; AGV; Solar Photovoltaic; Solar PV; Commercialization; Commercial Potential; Utility-scale; Contingency Framework; Stakeholder s ; Renewable Energy; Renewables;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose - In the pursuit of renewable energy sources, solar photovoltaic (PV) is predicted to become the single biggest global source of energy by the year of 2027, part of a trilemma involving climate change, biodiversity and food security. Agrivoltaic (AV) systems, the co-location and potential symbiosis between agricultural activities and solar PV, has thereby arisen as a potential solution for dual land-use. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Kommunernas klimatanpassning till framtida värmeböljor i Sverige

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildning

    Författare :Johanna Åström; [2022]
    Nyckelord :heat waves; extreme heat; climate change; climate change adaptation; adaptive capacity; risk management; resilience; elderly; public health; municipalities; local governance; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Extreme temperatures are increasing in frequency as well as intensity due to human induced climate change. Heat waves now pose a very high risk to the public health in Sweden and the elderly are particularly vulnerable. This study therefore aimed to investigate how Swedish municipalities are working to strategically manage these health risks. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Improvement of the Rucio implementation for the LDCS platform and search for dark data

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Piotr Yartsev; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Dark matter; rucio; digital infrastructure; Root; LDMX; LDCS; dark data; Python; CERN; particle physics; big data; Geant4; Light Dark Matter eXperiment; Lightweight Distributed Computing System; data storage; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : In this work we aim to implement a software package to detect and categorize dark data, data not accessible or not known by the user, generated in the simulations of the Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX). This will involve studying current existing solutions for such problems, attempting to implement them for the Lightweight Distributed Computing System (LDCS), and developing our own Dark Data Search (DDS) toolkit to perform the detection and categorization of the dark data. 5. 5. Open Source Grid Expansion Models for the EU Project Spine

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Författare :Akshaya Tammanur Ravi; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Expansion Planning; Renewable Energy Sources; Operational Variability; Representative Days; Long-term Uncertainties; Stochastic Optimization; Utbyggnadsplanering; Förnybara energikällor; Variabel driftsituation; Representativa dagar; Långsiktiga osäkerheter; Stokastisk optimering;

    Sammanfattning : Modern power systems are at the forefront of addressing the transition towards a decarbonized energy system, with increased integration of renewable energy sources becoming the key means to achieve the same. In this context, an expansion planning problem provides a decision support framework for investments in new generation and transmission assets over a long time-frame, addressing a wide range of technical and economic criteria aligned with national policies.
