Min Childism : en konceptuell analys och teoriutveckling av childism

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Mänskliga rättigheter

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this paper is twofold. It firstly aims to promote an understanding and critical review of the concept childism. This will be done with the influential books of Elisabeth Young-Bruehl and John Wall as the primary material. By using Sally Haslanger’s conceptual analysis, I will show that the two authors have different understandings of the concept. The firstly mentioned author’s theory has theoretical resemblance to sexism while the latter is more similar to feminism. The conceptual analysis is followed by a comparison and evaluation of the theories. As a result, I argue that Wall’s understanding of childism should be given precedency to the term. Since I do not find Wall’s theory optimal, I also aim to, according to Haslangers ameliorative analysis, develop my own childism theory. The development of this theory will be based on five thematic concerns and will consider how childism should be understood, which areas it should primarily be interested in and how childism can promote children’s rights. My proposed use of the childism concept intends to contribute further to the development of childism as well as to the development of children’s rights theory in general.
