Ett löfte om jämställdhet? En diskursanalytisk läsning av jämställdhet i propositionen till Sveriges samtyckeslag.

Sammanfattning: Based on a feminist poststructural framework and discursive analytical readings of sexual violence and intersectionality, gender equality in Sweden's self-image and the concept of consent, this thesis examines how gender equality is presented in the legal document that is the basis for the Swedish Consent Act: A new sexual crime legislation based on voluntariness (Prop. 2017/18:177). Through the critical text analysis method: WPR and the approach of a reflexive thematisation, the thesis has been able to highlight central concepts that are prominent in the document and construct the analysis based upon them. The conclusion is that gender equality is presented through concepts based on heteronormative and racialised logics that are linked to the exclusionary practices embedded in Sweden's gender equality discourse. This shows that the Consent Act is not a change that addresses previous criticism of the sex crime legislation or focuses on solving the structural problems surrounding sexual violence. Instead, it is presented as a solution for reproducing Sweden's gender equality discourse as a modern nation at the forefront of preventing sexual violence och promoting gender equality. Notably, by analysing how gender equality is captured and renegotiated, this thesis has shown how this affects how we are able to understand voluntariness and involuntariness in relation to sexual violence.
