Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Musikhögskolan i Malmö

Sammanfattning: The music industry’s venture capitalists - A case study on a British educational institution of rock- & popmusic What is the aim and purpose of popular music in higher education? The question above is one of many asked throughout the process of writing this paper. During a week we set out to try and answer it by conducting a case study research paper on The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, England. Using focus group- interviews as our primary source of data collection, we presented ungrounded, provocative statements regarding the existence of popular music within the academic world to be able to harvest interesting thoughts and ideas that these discussions brought into light. The results of these discussions are presented in a fashion that mainly concludes the hardships of institutionalising popular music but also to an extent provide valid arguments for its existence within the academic world. In the concluding chapter we continue this discussion but also draw comparisons to our own context by marrying our background with the results presented.
