    Sammanfattning : Syftet med detta arbete är att göra en litteraturstudie och sammanställa fakta om hur vägsalt (NaCl, natriumklorid) påverkar vår stadsmiljö samt att få en överblick hur vegetation, slitlager och markytor i närheten av saltbehandlade vägar påverkas av den höga saltningsintensiteten. I arbetet ingår också en kartläggning av vilka andra alternativ och metoder till salt som provats för att eventuellt kunna vara likvärdiga eller bättre i sin funktion och inte vara lika skadliga som salt är för miljön.     Sammanfattning : In the spring of 2018, a prospection and subsequent research excavation of a previously unstudied area related to the rampart of the Viking age town of Birka, Sweden, was undertaken by students and professors from the archaeological science department affiliated with Stockholm University.The purpose of this paper is to examine and categorise the various excavated finds, the ensuing conservation and preservation of the metal objects as well as to investigate the context and possible function of the site regarding the spatial distribution of said finds.     Sammanfattning : Effects of sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) particle deposition on the atmospheric corrosion of copper (Cu) metal and a Cu-based alloy (Cu5Al5Zn) used in architectural applications were investigated at laboratory conditions compared with effects induced by sodium chloride (NaCl) and to some extent ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 induced corrosion. Pre-deposited surfaces were exposed to repeated wet/dry conditions in a climatic chamber and the formation of corrosion products were assessed using light optical microscopy (LOM), scanning electron microscopy with elemental analysis (SEM/EDS), Fourier transform infrared techniques (FTIR microscopy) and cathodic reduction (CR).
