  1. 1. Investigating Seasonal Snow in Northern Sweden – a Multi-Layer Snow Pack Model and Observations from Abisko Scientific Research Station Provide Clues

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Anna Staffansdotter; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Snow characteristics; snow layer development; snow pack modelling; climate change; Abisko Scientific Research Station; Snöegenskaper; snöskiktutveckling; snöpackmodell; klimatförändringar; Abisko naturvetenskapliga station;

    Sammanfattning : Meteorological parameters determine the physical properties of snow precipitating from the atmosphere, but snow layers also continue to develop within the snow pack after the precipitation event. New characteristics form depending on temperature fluctuations, interaction with the soil, overburden compression, rain-on-snow events and more. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Object-Based Classification of Vegetation at Stordalen Mire near Abisko by using High-Resolution Aerial Imagery

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Marco Giljum; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Object-Based Image Analysis; OBIA; Vegetation Classification; Permafrost; Arctic Peatland; Remote Sensing; Aerial Photography; Environmental Monitoring; Landscape Analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is to investigate and apply the remote sensing method of object-based image analysis (OBIA) for vegetation classification of a permafrost underlain peatland in sub-arctic Sweden, by using aerial imagery of high resolution. Since the northern landscapes are an important source of naturally stored CH4 and CO2, their contribution to the global carbon cycle is a focus in research about climate change and the global methane exchange. 3. 3. Time series analysis of ground frost conditions at Abisko, sub-Arctic Sweden, 1985-2010

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Anja Schmidt; [2012]
    Nyckelord :marktemperatur; subarktiska Sverige; Abisko forskningstation; frost cykler; snötäcke; lufttemperatur; Ground temperatures; subarctic Sweden; Abisko research station; frost cycle; snow cover; air temperature;

    Sammanfattning : Observed climatic change may result in modification of the ground thermal regime.The causes of shallow ground temperature variability, however, are not well documented. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This essay is about the origin, planning and establishment of the European Space Research Organisation's (ESRO) sounding rocket base Esrange outside Kiruna in Northern Sweden. Three main questions are examined. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of global warming on reindeerhusbandry in the Swedish subarctic : correlations across microclimatic change, subarcticvegetation cover, and reindeer foraging preferences

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Energy and Technology

    Författare :Jordi Fusté Ballesteros; [2010]
    Nyckelord :Abisko; research; temperature; climate change; vegetation; reindeer;

    Sammanfattning : The Abisko Scientific Research Station (ANS) is located in the far north of Sweden, in asubarctic environment inhabited mostly by the Sami people. ANS has conducted researchfor more than hundred years, with its current focus set on interdisciplinary research regardingthe effects of climate-change on the subarctic environment. LÄS MER
