1. The role of word accents in semantic processing in South Swedish
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Masterprogram: Språk och språkvetenskap; Lunds universitet/FonetikSammanfattning : Prosodic cues can aid speech processing by adding semantic information in lexical tones or functional information in intonational tones. Swedish word accents are considered to have stronger grammatical functions than semantic roles, although they are shaped by both lexical and intonational information structure. LÄS MER
2. Transformer-Based Multi-scale Technical Reports Analyser for Science Projects Cost Prediction
Master-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)Sammanfattning : Intrinsic value prediction is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) problem consisting in determining a numerical value contained implicitly and non-trivially in a text. In this project, we introduce the SWORDSMAN model (Sentence and Word-level Oracle for Research Documents by Semantic Multi-scale ANalysis), a deep neural network architecture based on transformers whose goal is to predict the cost of research projects from the analysis of their abstract. 3. An online study of L2 relative clause processing: Evidence from self-paced reading in Persian learners of English
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Allmän språkvetenskap; Lunds universitet/Masterprogram: Språk och språkvetenskapSammanfattning : This study examines relative clause (RC) processing in Persian learners of English and native speakers of English to explore whether or how different task demands, referential context information with three potential RC antecedents along with the variables noun type (definite, indefinite), RC length (short, long) and RC type (extraposed, non-extraposed) affect their processing, using both an online non-cumulative self-paced reading task and an offline questionnaire. In the self-paced reading task, the online processing of RC attachment resolution was examined when participants read temporarily ambiguous sentences with RCs preceded by one clause or two clauses containing three NPs followed by comprehension questions to explore L2 RC attachment preferences. 4. Imitation eller skapelse
Kandidat-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för språk och litteraturerSammanfattning : The aim of this study was to compare four original Japanese books with their corresponding translations in Swedish, using the following questions; are the translations semantic or communicative? And in what way does this manifest itself in the translations. Second, why do the translator choose respective method and what consequences does that bring the translation? This study was conducted using Newmark’s theories regarding semantic and communicative translation theory, whereas the semantic translation shows loyalty to the author and the communicative to the readership. 5. Grammar "bores the crap out of me!": A mixed-method study on the XTYOFZ construction and its usage by ESL and ENL speakers
Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Engelska institutionenSammanfattning : Different from Generative Grammar which sees grammar as a formal system of how words are put together to form sentences, Construction Grammar suggests that grammar is more than just rules and surface forms; instead, grammar includes many form-and-meaning pairings which are called constructions. For years, Construction Grammarians have been investigating constructions with various approaches, including corpus-linguistics, pedagogical, second language acquisition and so on, yet there is still room for exploration.
