    Sammanfattning : This paper takes a performance-based approach to corporate governance and investigates whether compliance with the corporate governance code in Sweden equates to a lower cost of capital, measured as cost of equity, cost of debt and the weighted average of these, the WACC. The premonition is that adherence to governance codes should lower the risk profile of the firm, leading investors and creditors to requiring a lower premium to associate themselves with the firm financially.     Sammanfattning : While the European Union is striving towards harmonization among the member countries, interlocks (connections) are a social phenomenon that has an implication on the Corporate Code but it is more implicitly pointed out with words like “other relevant information” or ”other significant board positions” that might affect the individual board member’s independence and ability to fully commit to the company.
