    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this paper is to investigate how different observers and reporters in the international debate form different opinions concerning current events in the Russian Republic of Chechnya in Caucasus and to try to illuminate what different consequences these different mediaconstructions might have for our public and political understanding of the situation, and the consequences these views might ultimately have for the population within the territory. The method used in the paper is discourse analysis and the material analyzed consists on the one hand of the article “Kadyrov´s Chechnya – Template, Test or Trouble for Russia´s Regional Policy?” which was publicized in 2011 by the Senior Lecturer in Russian Studies and Peace Studies at the University of Bradford John Russel, and on the other of one of the reports concerning Chechnya that was publicized in 2011 by the non-government organization (NGO) Human Rights Watch (HRW), named “You Dress According to Their Rules – Enforcement of an Islamic Dress Code for Women in Chechnya.
