How is it that Global Cities can develop their own independent foreign and security policies even though these areas traditionally have been seen as a monopolized core function of the nation state and its central governments? Why do the international system of nation states indirectly accepting this behaviour and, in the long run, opens up for Global Cities’ eviction of nation states as the central decision-making actor in global politics?
