  1. 1. Co-occurring Cold Extremes in North America and Unusually Warm Weather in Europe

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Petros Stergiou; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Extreme temperature events co-occurrence; cold spells; warm extremes; Europe; North America; Pan-Atlantic atmospheric teleconnections; Samtidiga extrema temperaturhändelser; kalla extrema; varma extrema; Europa; Nordamerika; Pan-Atlantiska atmosfäriska telekopplingar;

    Sammanfattning : In this project, we identified and examined the 50 coldest extreme temperature eventsin North America (CENA) and the 50 warmest extreme temperature events insouthwestern Europe (WEEU) during the winter seasons from 1948 to 2023. For theanalysis, we utilized daily NCEP-NCAR reanalysis data for temperature, sea levelpressure (SLP), and 500hPa geopotential height (Z500). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mitigating the Urban Heat Island Effect in a Local Context : how wind and vegetation regulate temperatures during summer, with an example from the grounds of Karlstad Central Hospital, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management (from 130101)

    Författare :Patricia Kirkhorn; [2022]
    Nyckelord :GIS; Envi-met; microclimate; climate change; vegetation; wind; city planning; urban heat island; thermal comfort;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change is the cause of more weather extremes. Cities' dense configuration, heat absorbing surfaces and low amount of vegetation leads to higher temperatures within cities known as the urban heat island effect (UHI). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Large-Scale Atmospheric Drivers of Extreme Temperature Anomalies During Springtime in the Arctic

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Linnea Barreng; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Meteorology; Temperature extremes; Arctic; Jet stream; Rossby waves; Spring; Meteorologi; Arktis; Extremväder; Jetström; Rossbyvågor; Vår;

    Sammanfattning : In this project warm extreme temperature events in the Arctic region during the spring months March, April and May were identified and analysed. In the analysis daily average NCEP reanalysis data from NOAA/OAR/ESRL PSL format was used. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Future climate resilience of energy-efficient retrofit projects in central Europe

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Energi och byggnadsdesign; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö

    Författare :Jonas Manuel Gremmelspacher; Julija Sivolova; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Climate change; Future climate; Climate action; Building Performance Simulations; Hygrothermal Simulations; Moisture; Heating demand; Retrofit; Renovation; Building stock; Residential; Dwellings; Thermal envelope; Heating peak loads; Thermal comfort; Indoor environmental quality; Actual case studies; Big data; Denmark; Germany; Iterative workflow; Weather files.; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This study assesses the performance of buildings affected by climate change under future climate predictions for three time-periods until the end of the 21st century. Objects studied are residential multi-storey buildings, originally built before 1970 and retrofitted during the last decade. LÄS MER

  5. 5. How are extreme temperatures changing in Sweden

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik

    Författare :Jakob Petersson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Change; Extreme; Temperature; Climate; Sweden; Global; Warming; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Global mean temperature has been observed to increase over the last hundred years; this increase is coupled with a global increase of warm extreme indices and a decrease in cold extreme indices. In this study, daily observations of mean and extreme temperatures from ten different weather stations in Sweden during the time period 1961-2010 were analyzed. LÄS MER
