  1. 1. Archaeological dental calculus reveals patterns of dietary shifts related to the farming transition in Africa

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Ivany Jocelyne Argueta Mejia; [2023]
    Nyckelord :dental calculus; ancient DNA; oral microbiome; shotgun sequencing; biofilm; metagenomics;

    Sammanfattning : Archaeological dental calculus represents a depositional environment that entraps oral microbes, and debris of dietary, environmental, and cultural material that entered the mouth throughout the host’s life. Hence, they represent valuable archives of information about the host’s lifestyle, health, and environment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Implementing a multi-criteria GIS analysis and predictive modelling to locate Upper Palaeolithic decorated caves in the Périgord noir, France

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Benjamin Bernard Fabien Gérard Borgeais; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Geography; GIS; MCDA; MCE; MCDM; MCA; predictive modelling; archaeology; decorated caves; Upper Palaeolithic; Périgord; Dordogne; Vézère; France; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Geographical Information Systems are a powerful tool for the processing of geographical data and can be used to implement predictive modelling for the purpose of archaeological research. The study presented here proposes a predictive model based on multi-criteria evaluation, and aims at analysing the parameters of known Upper Palaeolithic decorated caves in the Périgord noir, in southwest France. 4. 4. Evidence for a Stone Age fibre technology – a closer look at the prehistoric String Theory

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Arkeologi

    Författare :Eva Christina Wigforss; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Grounded Theory; prehistoric fiber string theory; materiality; knotting; perforated beads; textile impression in clay; cordage; fishing and hunting gear; Upper Palaeolithic; Mesolithic; textile ethnographia; History and Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to take a closer look into the evidence for a theory of prehistoric string manufacture, formulated by the British archaeologist Karen Hardy in the article Prehistoric string theory. How twisted fibers helped to shape the world (Hardy, 2008). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Perished Material - Vanished People Understanding variation in Upper Palaeolithic/Mesolithic Textile Technologies

    Magister-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antikens historia

    Författare :Eva Christina Wigforss; [2014]
    Nyckelord :: prehistoric textiles; Upper Palaeolithic; Mesolithic; textile technologies; hunter-fisher-gatherer societies; History and Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : The pilot project which is reported here was triggered by the author’s curiosity of the origin and development of basic textile technologies in early Palaeolithic and Mesolithic hunter-gatherer groups. The research question for the study is: Can comparisons of textile artefacts over a large range of areas and time spans tell us something about the early manufacture, use and development of textiles technologies? The methodology chosen for the study is to make a large scale survey of textile artefacts, primarily from excavations in Northern and Central Europe/Eurasia during three very different climate periods: the last interglacial period of Pleistocene, the latest glacial maximum and the first part of Holocene, the present interglacial period– the timespan for the study begins ca.
