1. An evaluation of deep learning models for urban floods forecasting
Master-uppsats, KTH/GeoinformatikSammanfattning : Flood forecasting maps are essential for rapid disaster response and risk management, yet the computational complexity of physically-based simulations hinders their application for efficient high-resolution spatial flood forecasting. To address the problems of high computational cost and long prediction time, this thesis proposes to develop deep learning neural networks based on a flood simulation dataset, and explore their potential use for flood prediction without learning hydrological modelling knowledge from scratch. 2. Investigating the relationship between circulation patterns and cloudburst character in a changing climate
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapsläraSammanfattning : The consequences of extreme weather in terms of heavy precipitation and flooding are devastating in both rural and urban areas. The cost on society to handle the damages are substantial. It is therefore of high interest to further investigate the mechanisms behind these extreme events. LÄS MER
3. Forecast-based Financing in Urban Informal Settlements - A Viable Disaster Risk Management Strategy?
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och SamhällssäkerhetSammanfattning : Rationale: Urban informal settlements are vulnerable and exposed to hazards. Weather forecasting is possible and provides a “window of opportunity” to push cash or aid to vulnerable dwellers before the disaster strikes. Forecast-based Financing is a framework, which provides this system, and it has had great success with rural pilots. LÄS MER
4. “We drive until the last vehicle is stuck”: how resilient is Hamburg’s public transport system to climate change effects?
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/LUCSUSSammanfattning : Climate change consequences are forecasted to severely affect urban life. Already in the past years, extreme events such as heat-waves, cloudbursts, and storm surges have strained cities’ infrastructures and inhabitants. In this thesis, I investigate the impact of extreme weather events on Public Transport (PT) in Hamburg/Germany. LÄS MER
