A bridge structure is perceived as a connection, a shelter, or a barrier, but how can we use the space In Between the Bridge? The project is connecting future living desires with remains from the past and utilizing a structure that might become obsolete while proposing a vertical community for a post-materialistic generation oriented towards health, nature, self-realization, individualism, and sustainability, supporting social interactions in society. The questions that we have started from are: How is the use of history presented in the textbooks? Is the depiction of history use the same between the books? How are art institutions today co-creators in shaping conditions for the future, and how is the network of larger institutions connected to politics, as well as in the shaping of cultural heritage and the identity of a city? This essay examines how discourses for exhibitions are developed among three municipal institutions: Malmö konsthall, Malmö Kulturförvaltning and Malmö Konstmuseum. With Reader-response Theory, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis as well as Comparative Analysis, the thesis’ qualitative approach aims to, alongside with the question of the network between the three institutions, examine if, and how, statements from representatives of municipal art institutions in Malmö are similar or dissimilar to statements from the representatives at art institutions in Sweden concerning the future of, and exhibition aspects of art.
