    Sammanfattning : This study has analysed the dialogue in two of the oldest Disney animated movies with a princess in the lead role, Cinderella from 1950 and Sleeping beauty from 1959 and compared them with their new live action remakes, Cinderella from 2015 and Maleficent from 2014, from a gender perspective.     Sammanfattning : Meg Cabot’s young adult (YA) novel series The Princess Diaries (2000-2009) is one of many modern-day examples of attempts to redefine what Western society considers the classic princess narrative: the story of a beautiful princess passively waiting for Prince Charming. As critics such as Kay Stone and Sarah Rothschild emphasize, the fictional princess is traditionally linked to notions of ideal femininity which, in turn, makes princess stories interesting texts from a feminist perspective.     Sammanfattning : Simple content analysis methods, such as the Bechdel test and measuring percentage of female talk time or characters, have seen a surge of attention from mainstream media and in social media the last couple of years. Underlying assumptions are generally shared with the gender role socialization model and consequently, an importance is stated, due to a high degree to which impressions from media shape in particular young children’s identification processes.     Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to examine the intertextual relationship between the classic Japanese folktale Taketori Monogatari and the Japanese comic (manga) Kaguya Hime that is based on the folktale. Focus lies in particular on examining how the change of main characters affects the narrative and the reader’s perception of it, as well as how the characters of Princess Kaguya – the shining princess – and the Okina – the bamboo cutter – have been transformed in the manga.
